Wi-Fi is a wireless-technology brand owned by the Wi-Fi Alliance. Wi-Fi alliance is a non-profit industry organization which defines the Wi-Fi technologies and programs, and handles the corresponding certification. Devices with Wi-Fi alliance certification indicates that they have met the requirements for interoperability, security and certain protocols.
Wi-Fi alliance certification may be a prerequisite for some other forum certification. For example, mobile phone devices supporting Wi-Fi must obtain Wi-Fi alliance certification before applying for PTCRB certification. Manufacturers must be Wi-Fi alliance member in order to apply Wi-Fi alliance certification for their products.
